Honoring Our Elders, Celebrating Our Legacy: The First Annual Juneteenth Celebration for the San Leandro Senior Community Center's was a beautiful day of honoring, remembering, and celebrating the generations who came before us.
Our gathering brought seniors, City of San Leandro Mayor Juan Gonzalez, Alameda County Supervisor Nate Miley's staff, families, young leaders, community members, community organizations, sponsors and partners together through music, spoken word, letters, fellowship, storytelling, food, and cultural celebration.
The special event created space for our elders to feel seen, valued, respecte , and celebrated while sharing their wisdom, memories, and lived experiences with the community. Juneteenth reminds us that knowing where we come from helps us understand who we are and inspires us to rise above all odds.
We are proud to have created a celebration that centers our seniors and recognizes their contributions to our families,neighborhoods, and community. This first annual gathering is more than an event-it is the beginning of a legacy of honoring our elders, preserving our history, and bringing generations together.
We celebrate our past, honor our present, and invest in our future.
